The season focus for this lesson is winter. Many detailed pictures are attached of snow, snowball, snowman, snow angel, snow fights, snow covered park/mountains, fireplace, hot drinks (hot chocolate), snow in the city and snow in London. With mention of the religious holidays that often occur in the winter months (Hanukkah, Christmas, and Diwali). Click on the link on the first page, and slowly discuss the slides using different descriptive words to add more details that will be essential in their poetry. Try using detailed words for inspiration and encourage discussion of some photos to share descriptive words (snow- cold, soft, freezing, fluffy and crunchy. Reading Resource - Blank - True or False, Prove it! - KS1/KS2
This reading resource is in an editable word document. This is a blank resource which means teachers can create a statement based on the text they provide. These statements can be true or false. The purpose is to get children to ‘prove it’ by using the text to retrieve and record key information and then identifying whether the the statement is true or false.
The activity can be extended by asking the pupils to write down two true and one false statement themselves. They then exchange these with other group members and repeat the above process.
With the National Curriculum in mind, I have created a set of lessons based on poetry with tasks attached.
